We are delighted to showcase Ramon’s story, his hard work, perseverance, and strength have helped him achieve his dreams.
Ramon was born in Jalisco, Mexico in the 1960s. Growing up, he dreamed of attending the University of Guadalajara to become either an architect or a pilot. However, he struggled to pursue his education because he had no reliable way to get to school. His grandfather even offered to help by selling some of his cattle, but Ramon humbly declined.
At just 17 years old, Ramon decided to travel to the United States to work and save money for a vehicle, in hopes to return and go to school. He eventually settled in California and finished High School. In 1984, he married Victoria, and together they raised five children. The family moved to Riverside in 1992, where Ramon worked for a steel company for 15 years.
Ramon takes great pride in having achieved the American dream. He built a stable life for his family in the U.S. and was also able to build a home for his loved ones in Mexico. Now retired, he enjoys spending his days surrounded by his family.

We are honored to highlight Susan, an inspiring individual whose perseverance, compassion, and strength have helped her build a truly beautiful life.
Susan, originally from Massachusetts, she moved to Riverside County in 1985. Worked as a nurse’s aide for 20 years, a role she truly loved, especially the time she spent caring for seniors. Susan was among the first to obtain her nurse assistant certification when it became a requirement, reflecting her dedication to her profession and the people she served.
A natural caregiver, Susan also lovingly cared for her husband during his final days before his passing at age 57. Family has always been at the center of Susan’s life, she is a proud mother of three: Melissa, Danielle, and Will, and she adores her two grandchildren. Although she was once terrified of driving on the freeway, her love for her grandkids inspired her to overcome that fear. She now drives regularly to Orange County and cherishes every moment she spends with them.
Today, Susan enjoys traveling, playing bingo with her friends, and spending time with her joyful pet, Jack. Her life reflects resilience, compassion, and a deep devotion to family and those she cares for.

We’re honored to celebrate sisters Alvina (92) and Carol (84) — two remarkable women whose bond has stood the test of time.
After growing up in rural Texas, each married, raised beautiful families, and built full lives of their own. When they both lost their husbands just a year apart, Alvina had a wonderful idea: “Let’s live together, help each other “
Now, these inspiring sisters share a home filled with laughter, love, and family — proving that life truly is better together.
Stories like theirs remind us why we do what we do. Having the honor to know and share their life stories truly unites us and gives our work deeper meaning every day.

Eduardo has been a valued member of Better Together for the past consecutive seven years. We are truly honored to have him as part of our community, and it is our pleasure to briefly highlight and celebrate his inspiring story.
Eduardo was born in Michoacan, Mexico, in 1945. From humble beginnings, he learned the value of hard work at a very young age. While working in construction in Mexico, he met the love of his life, the woman he lovingly calls his “Jewel.” he says she was and still is the most beautiful woman he has ever known. He courted her for a year, determined to win her heart, and in 1971 they began a life together.
Eduardo and his wife moved to the United States and settled in Riverside, where they raised their three children: Maria Elena, Victoria, and Eduardo Jr. The construction industry in America was very different from what he knew in Mexico, but Eduardo embraced the challenge. Through perseverance and dedication, he became a contractor, proudly building homes from start to finish.
Today, Eduardo is now retired, but his hands and heart remain active. He finds peace in gardening, tending to his plants and fruit trees. He often fondly remembers his grandmother’s cooking, flavors that carry the warmth of his childhood. He enjoys maintaining his home, traveling, and most of all, spending his days beside his beloved wife, children, and their six grandchildren. Reflecting on his life, he feels grateful and proud to be a hardworking and respectful man who built both a strong family and a meaningful life.
